The Multi-Cultural Arts Program (MAP) is hosting its 13th Annual Multicultural Arts Talent Show, Saturday, August 3, starting at 6:00 p.m. at Barton Elementary School in Lake Worth. The show will showcase multicultural dances, choirs, solo performers, steppers, drummers, a magic show, and much more.

The Program which started in April of 2000, offers dance, drama, visual arts, gardening, and cooking to a hundred plus youth ages 3-17 years of age to develop their artistic gifts. Participating students attend the Early Childhood Academy, Barton Elementary School, Lake Worth Middle, Lantana Middle, Lake Worth High, Academy for Positive Learning, South Grade, North Grade, Highland, Indian Pines, Maritime Academy, Bak Middle School of the Arts and Dreyfoos High School of the Arts.

This summer the students have been working with Dreyfoos School of the Arts alumnus Pierre Clerger, who graduated two years ago and is currently back from college and sharing his expertise with the MAP summer campers.

The Palm Beach County Cultural Council, Prime Time, PNC Bank Foundation, Lake worth Kiwanis Club, City of Lake Worth , Palm Beach County Board of County Commissioners  and individuals provide financial support for this program.  The children have been working with one of our former student

MAP serves as a stepping stone for those children who demonstrate strong artistic talent and are interested in attending an arts school. Those identified as having great artistic skills are provided with additional  dance  and drama training to audition for Bak and Dreyfoos schools. Recently, 11 children from the MAP program were accepted to the two schools.

Coordinating organizer Reginale Durandisse, founder and CEO of For the Children, Inc. said this program offers opportunities for children to receive significant arts instruction. “These children would not have been able to take these classes focusing a diversity of performing and visual arts if not for the financial and artistic contributions from a number of community entities,” she stated.

The event is typically an evening of entertainment and a celebration. Admission is $5.00 for adults, $3.00 for school-aged children and children under five years are admitted free. For details, please contact 561.493.1190.
